First TASAI Cameroun country study near completion

TASAI is conducting a country study for Cameroun. The study commenced in July 2024. Data collection was completed by mid-September, and the draft Cameroun seed sector assessment report is currently under review.

The Cameroun study, which focuses on maize, rice, sorghum, and soya bean, as the four key crops in the country, entailed a survey of 60 seed producers who include seed cooperatives, seed companies, common interest groups, and individual seed producers. These entities account for the bulk of seed production for the four crops. In addition, the study has collected information from the Department of Regulations and Quality Control of Agricultural Products and Inputs (DRQC) and the Directorate of Agriculture Development (DDA), the two main entities in the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MINADER) in charge of seed sector development, and Institut de Recherche Agricole pour le Développement (IRAD), which is the national agricultural research institute.

The study is part of on-going work under the African Development Bank (AfDB)-funded Technologies for African Agricultural Transformation (TAAT II) program. Concurrently, the TAAT II program is also supporting the development of a Seed Roadmap for Cameroun.

When complete, Cameroun will be the 24th country, and first in the Central African Economic and Monetary Community (CEMAC) region, where TASAI has conducted seed sector assessments. In addition. At the end of the study, TASAI will convene a dissemination workshop, under the TAAT II program. The study will be disseminated concurrently with the Cameroun Seed Roadmap.
