2025 Preview: A Few Things We’re Excited About

Welcome to TASAI’s occasional newsletter! Having returned from a well-deserved holiday break, the TASAI team started the new year re-energized and ready to continue ongoing projects and launch into new ones.
In 2024, TASAI undertook seed sector assessments in Cameroon and Cote d’Ivoire under the Technologies for African Agricultural Transformation (TAAT) 2 project. Both studies are slated to be completed in early 2025. Rounding out TASAI’s work in the TAAT2 project will be the assessment of Zambia’s formal seed sector, scheduled to be published by end of 2025.
At the end of January, we were pleased to have launched the first-ever TASAI study of Somalia in partnership with the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization and the African Agricultural Technology Foundation. Our team held a successful and well-attended inception mission in Somalia that you can read about in detail below.
With support from AGRA, in the next few weeks TASAI will be launching three more country studies in Ethiopia, Kenya, and Uganda. These new studies will enrich data from previous seed sector assessments; in fact, in the case of Kenya and Uganda[KT1] [SA2] , the 2025 TASAI studies will mark the 6th round of data collection and over a decade of seed sector information collected by our organization.
Last but not least, the TASAI team is rolling out the data collection exercise for the 2025 Seed Sector Performance Index, which will feed into the 5th CAADP Biennial Review, coordinated by the African Union. Building on the success of the 2023 SSPI Report, we look forward to being a part of this important initiative that supports agricultural development, including the development of national seed sectors across Africa.
