TASAI Concludes Successful Seed Côte d’Ivoire seed sector assessment

TASAI is implementing the African Development Bank-funded Technologies for African Agricultural Transformation (TAAT) II project as part of the Policy Compact under the Africa Agricultural Technology Foundation (AATF). Under the project, TASAI conducted a seed sector performance assessment for Côte d’Ivoire. The study assessed the country’s seed sector using the TASAI methodology. On 2nd October 2025, TASAI presented the findings of this study to the stakeholders in workshop in Bassam, Côte d’Ivoire. The presentation of the draft report elicited multiple reactions and comments, which will be incorporated into the revised version of the report.

The workshop was convened by the Ministry of State, Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Food Production (MEMINADERPV) and attended by about 40 stakeholders from the private sector, public sector, research institutions and other organizations that are active in seed sector development in the country. The 3^rd day of the workshop was dedicated to the TASAI report, while the previous two days focuses on the review and finalization of several seed policy instruments including the draft National Seed Policy, the draft Seed Law, the draft National Seed Strategy and regulations for seed import and export, plant variety protection and variety release. Most of the discussion centered around the draft Seed Policy. The stakeholders agreed that the Policy should address five core axes: Revitalization of the seed industry; Adaptation of a national seed production framework; Strengthening research in collaboration with public and private players; Strengthening that national seed service; and Establishing a system/mechanism for planning, coordinating, and monitoring and evaluation system/mechanism.
